Mind cures or make us sick

Hospital records all over the world show that those who visit hospitals (as out- patients) continue to do so on a regular pattern. Those who do not come for treatment, almost never do. A patient, if operated once, Stands a bigger chance to get operated again. Remember, metal expectations come to pass. If you believe you will be healthy all the time, you will be. Those who think they will die at the same age their grandfather or aunt died will probably die at that age itself. Those who say ‘ oh, my days are over’, their days are literally over. If anyone feels ‘everything is over in my life’ (as in the case of those who retire and do nothing later), death will come very fast. Your belief and thoughts are more important than anything else.

Modern medicine is slowly accepting the reality of mind over matter. Recognizing the power of mind to influence the functioning of the human body is a fundamental step in the long journey to health. Thoughts can cure you or make you sick. Belief is the essential requisite in any treatment. Your disease symptoms disappear only when you have faith in the physician who administers the medication. If the doctor you believe fully, gives you simple sugar tablets for the relief of your pain, it will subside. Similar capsules if administered to cancer patients can even remove cancer symptoms. It is the mind which affects the cure and not the drug.   Belief is the essential requisite in any treatment. The doctor you believe in can cure you, but the same medicine from another doctor whom you do not know may not cure you. Those who believe they will be healthy and live long do become healthy and they generally live longer.
Those who worry about diseases all the time are almost always sick.

Fast for super health

Today there are very few who are willing to forgo food; on the contrary we all want to eat more. Even the sick do not abstain from dining; there is a misconceived notion that eating helps body recover. It does not; it only harms. We have to learn from animals which totally fast when they are sick.
Parents try to force-feed children when they are sick; wives do the same to their husbands especially if they are newly-wed.  Abstaining from food during sickness is deemed incorrect by almost all of us: we have to fast or take little while we are indisposed so that the body energy could be channelized for curing.  Many are aware overeating is harmful but very few know that fasting and eating less is good for health.  Fasting is, perhaps, the best medicine ever.

Fast occasionally for a day; if that is uncomfortable skip lunch or dinner. Skip the snacks in between and reduce your intake.  It has been conclusively proven that if our calorie intake is limited to 1200 per day (our average calorie intake is above 2500 or more) we will live much more and that too healthily. Now the choice is yours. Eat less and enjoy health and longevity or eat sumptuously to your heart’s content (with good servings of fatty and fried stuff) and become sick and cut short your life.

The past is past and done with. How you have lived hardly matters. The now and the future is that which counts.   Decide at this moment to reduce your intake, fast occasionally and enjoy health. Eat only when you are really hungry and not because it is lunch or dinner time. Decide to take more fibrous food and water with deep colored fruits and vegetables; less sugar, salt and alcohol. If this effort is combined with exercises you are going to be super-fit.

Laugh your way to health

We know our health very much depends on our mental condition. When we are in the company of good people and cheerful surroundings, our body functions much better. Unpleasant scenery and the presence of those whom we dislike can make us sick and tired. A steady, good state of mind can usher in health and a negative one sickness.  Mental states influence our nervous system and vital organs.  One can acquire radiant health with a bit of exercise and food control coupled with a positive state of mind. It is now proven mental disturbances like anxiety and tension can induce diabetes, asthma, bronchitis and even blood pressure. Acute depressions and intense grieving can induce cancers!  One’s feelings, emotions, and mental states reflected in one’s brain waves, influence our health. Simply put, mind has a lot to do with one’s physical state.  By controlling one’s mind one can be healthy. Depressing and negative thoughts force our glands secrete poison into the blood. It affects or retards the normal body functions like circulation, digestion and assimilation.  A pleasant state of mind induces positive secretions which facilitate all these functions.
Constant laughing, smiles and a joyous state can cure diseases and help our body build up immunity against them. If one is depressed or sad immunity gets reduced and the count of the white blood corpuscles comes down. In a recent medical research, cancer patients were accommodated in a hall where they were allowed to read only funny magazines, articles, anecdotes and books, and see humorous films or videos. The experiment was continued for six months. When they were tested afterwards, it was observed that almost 20 percent of the patients were cured totally! There was a marked improvement in the others!  If a continuous joyous state can cure even incurable diseases like cancer, ordinary illnesses can easily be overcome even with occasional smiles and a positive state of mind.   It is also proven medically that anger, frustration and sorrow can bring in diseases including cancer. Widows, for instance, are much more prone to breast cancer than others.  A pleasant state of mind is conducive for health and well-being. The facial features can change one’s inner state of mind.  If your facial muscles can be turned into a smiling state, the intensity of sorrow will lessen and it will help maintain a pleasant state and build up disease fighting mechanism. So, keep a smile always dangling in your lips.
