Modern day
studies have shown that physiological and immune system deterioration is
markedly reduced by food-intake restriction. In other words, eat less and live
more. The surest way to increase an
animal’s life span is to reduce the quantum of food it eats.
Dr. Clive
McCay of the Cornel University has shown long back through his extensive
experiments that when he cut down the food intake of laboratory rats their
life-span doubled. Others like Dr. Edward J Masaro could prove this point in other
ways too. Dr Ray Walford of California
University, and a famous UCLA
researcher concludes: under-nutrition is the only way we know that
retards the ageing process and extends maximum life-span of warm blooded
animals. Reduce your intake of proteins, carbohydrate, fats. salt and sugar. He
calls it Calorific Restriction with Optimal Nutrition. He has not been able to fix the exact quantity
of calories to be taken to extend life span by a certain number of years. He
used to restrict his intake to 1600 calories per day. This is a big call. We all
take around 3000-4000 calories a day or more!
Calorific restriction (CR) has alone
proven to extend both the average and maximum lifespan of all animal species
tested so far. Exercise and nutritional supplementation can help in many ways
but not in extending lifespan. Scientists have done experiments with different
degrees of CR at different ages and shown that more CR resulted in more life
extension except when it becomes starvation when the opposite happens. CR is also found to reduce the occurrence of the
diseases of ageing like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Hence eat less and live more.
